Hard to say, I’ve only ever worked as a housekeeper for one day at a motel, and it was a short shift. Sorry! I’ve heard of it happening before though.

Ahhh, when I was a janitor… We cleaned factories, banks, town hall, etc. in this tiny little backwards town (I hate that town).

Bankers? Surprisingly disgusting. They look so pretty and clean when you go in to do a transaction, but oh, no…if you saw what was behind those lovely polished counters…

One day, we came to the basement of one of the banks to find a passive-aggressive note on the women’s restroom door telling us to do our jobs and clean the bathroom. I assumed they were insinuating we didn’t do it, but oh, no. When I opened the door..? Blood. Everywhere. On the floor. On the walls. On the seat. On the handle. But most baffling of all?

On the CEILING. On the UNDERSIDE OF THE SEAT.

I just

Hospital jaguar back again.

After a person works in sanitizing the operating rooms, they become strangely hyper-acute to seeing the tiniest spot of blood. We get inspected enough times to be very very detailed in making sure every scrap of matter— trash or otherwise, surgeons are VERY messy and never use the trash cans for the small stuff— and have to make sure the walls, floor, ceiling, and 238472983 pieces of equipment are spotless.

People who don’t do what we do are always amazed at how we can make out a tiny tiny speck of blood on any surface.

It’s thin, not at all soft, and you need a lot of it to be able to do anything. Who likes public washroom toilet paper, really?

I worked janitorial for a combined total of about 2.5 years, and the one silver lining to come out of it is that I now watch the ground when I walk/bike, and I have a really good eye for spotting things. Yesterday I found a loonie while I was biking around town, for example. :3

This always made me sad, the idea of a girl or woman in a public washroom taking a pregnancy test.
